The Patterns of Nature offer us a lens through which to perceive the sacred, the mystery, and the profound wisdom that exist in what is already here—both right in front of us and within us. By exploring the patterns of nature, how they express, organize, destroy, repair, regenerate, and create, any moment in life or any issue we face becomes an opportunity for connection to a deeper, shared knowing. These patterns link us to a source of wisdom, or a life force that transcends our conscious understanding.
Imagine three layers of an egg: the yolk, the white, and the shell—and beyond them, a vast expanse. Our life experience is like the yolk—intimate, personal, and distinct. The white of the egg represents a space of shared knowing, where language is composed of patterns, metaphors, archetypes, and myths, a realm where we connect with the collective human experience. The shell and everything beyond it is Nature itself—love, wisdom, the realms that exist beyond knowing, the forces that shape and sustain all life. The Patterns of Nature form the bridge between personal and universal experience—the connection between the "me" of our individual existence and the "me" of the greater Universe.
When we bring personal struggles—such as injury, pain, fear, or any challenge—into connection with this shared experience and the life force inherent in Nature, healing becomes regenerative. Solutions aren't just local and limited to the specific issue; they are transformative on a broader scale. For example, when my knee pain is alleviated, I don’t just regain comfort in that joint; I discover new ways to move, ways that prevent injury elsewhere and leave me feeling more fluidly alive. Likewise, when I move beyond fear, I feel a profound sense of belonging, a deep recognition of the gift of my existence, not just to myself, but to the world. This is the magic of the Patterns: they take personal difficulty and expand it into universal wholeness, offering insight and restoration that reach far beyond the immediate.
The Patterns of Nature are a way to approach our wholeness of being in manageable aspects. As a Practice, they invite us to deepen our connection to our own vitality and to the world around us. When I dance the Patterns of Nature, they resonate within me like Patterns of Joy. In this way, I experience a vivid sense of completeness—an awareness of the intricate connections that link me to the Universe.
When we apply the Patterns to our work—whether creating, teaching, or any other endeavor—they become a powerful lens through which to examine our approach. We can ask ourselves, “Am I including the essential aspects of wholeness in this work? Am I honoring the deeper patterns of life and connection in the way I create or teach? What do I choose to include, and what do I intentionally leave out? Why?” This inquiry allows us to align our efforts with the wisdom of Nature, ensuring that what we create is not only purposeful but reflective of the interconnectedness of all life.
In this way, the Patterns of Nature do not just serve as a guide—they become a practice of devotion, a way to bring us into harmony with the natural world, expanding our understanding, our joy, and our wholeness.
